Why Humans Don’t Have A Mating Season

Craig Benzine from Mental Floss explains why humans don’t have a mating season like most animals. Craig goes on to explain the difference between estrous and menstrual cycle. We’re not really sure why human women have menstrual cycles and not estrous cycle like the other mammals in the world. While humans do not have a mating season there is a significantly higher number of children born as a result of higher conception rates in June and December. We aren’t exactly sure why more children are conceived during the winter and the summer. Some experts claim that this a result of humans actually being impacted by a mating season while others believe these times coincide with vacations and holidays where humans have more free time for making babies, and Craig mentions the fact that these are also the times where there are more reruns on television.
